Strict Parenting Vs Gentle Parenting

A lot of people give gentle parenting a bad name because of the mistakes but letting the child do whatever. If the child is too young to communicate or understand what do you do. My child is 17 months and we do timeout after several times saying no and redirecting him but even after time out he continues to do the thing I’ve told him not to do and he even watches me while he does it. I don’t want to resort to spanking even if his parents do it. I’m not sure how else to punish him.

I see the difference. But we do old school parenting over here.
